NEW YORK.- The Victoria and Albert Museum in London holds one of the world’s finest collections of European decorative arts. Thirty-five of its masterpieces will be on view at The Metropolitan Museum of Art beginning May 20, 2008, in the exhibition Medieval and Renaissance Treasures from the Victoria and Albert Museum, while the V&A prepares a new suite of galleries for its collection. Dating from 300 to 1600, the exhibition will include superb examples of sculpture, metalwork, ceramics, and glass that are rarely lent. Most have never been on view in New York.
These mostly small-scale works of art are highly prized for their beauty, the value of their materials, and the exquisite workmanship that marks their creation. Among the highlights will be the Carolingian ivory cover of the Lorsch Gospels, an ivory statuette of the crucified Christ by Giovanni Pisano, Donatello’s bronze Putto with Fish, a pair of gilt-bronze statuettes of prophets by Hubert Gerhard, and the Codex Forster I, one of Leonardo da Vinci’s precious notebooks.
Medieval and Renaissance Treasures from the Victoria and Albert Museum will provide a rare opportunity to see these works together before they are installed in the new Medieval and Renaissance Galleries opening at the V&A in fall 2009.

"China Design" chez Liberty
J'étais à Londres, il y a 2 semaines. Philippe n'a pas voulu aller voir "China Design" au V&A (ce ne sont pas ses valeurs...). En revanche, il a bien voulu m'accompagner chez Liberty où il y avait une petie expo au dernier étage. Je n'arrive pas à retrouver le nom du créateur de ces modèles... pour l'instant. Mes autres photos étaient floues. Tant pis.
J'ai beaucoup aimé les lanternes de Lisa Cheung. Ce qui était drôle, c'était que j'avais eu la même idée l'année dernière lorsque j'ai voulu faire un concours pour un verrier fameux de Murano. Je voulais proposer les lanternes en verre de Murano. A la dernière minute, j'ai eu la flemme de remplir le dossier...
Lisa Cheung. Inspired by design and art at an early age, Lisa Cheung draws her inspiration from the vibrancy, colourful customs and culture of China, in particular the city of Hong Kong.
Chinese Princesses are a collection of baroque style chandeliers by Cheung. These intricate chandeliers draw inspiration from the traditional Chinese paper cutting craft and the ornate headdresses worn by Chinese princesses. Using laser technology and new materials Cheung modernises this ancient craft, shifting the parameters of craft and design and effortlessly merging tradition and innovation.
Philippe a beaucoup aimé les chaises de Design MVW. Une alliance entre la forme très simple et les motifs chinois rouges, brocarts avec dragons, phénix ou pivoines...
Based in Shanghai, the firm offers unique, contemporary, and functional designs for residential and commercial venues. Inspired from nature and the lines of old pieces of Chinese furniture, De MVW’s affirm their predilections for simple and architectural forms. Made in wood and steel and in colour, each piece is manufactured in China. Nous avons beaucoup aimé le travail de WOKmédia qui allie imagination débridée liée à l'enfance (personnages de Walt Disney) et critique de la société actuelle, le tout dans une exécution parfaite, les meubles en laque blanche faisant penser à du marbre de Carrare ou de la porcelaine. J'ai particulièrement apprécié les installations d'adFuncture qui a posé son personnage fétiche sur un poële de faience de Delft... Ma soeur Sylvie aurait adoré. Elle a une prédilection pour ce genre de personnages qu'elle collectionne, qu'ils soient japonais ou chinois!
Design mvw is an award-winning design services studio, born of 2 mixed culture designer and architect totally involved in the actual reflection inspired by modern lifestyle, specializing in furniture design, interior design, and architecture. 
Julie Mathias and Wolfgang Kaeppner established WOKmedia in 2004 with a focus on the emotional dimension - an inherent memory or a physical sensation – a world embedded in their childhood memories. Their work celebrates make-believe and the development of worldly awareness. The limited edition series, ‘Made in China’, features traditional Chinese furniture embedded with hand-carved wooden toys and finished in white lacquer – each piece is unique and provides an edgy commentary on modern child’s play.
In August 2002, adFunture Workshop released their first designer vinyl figure in Hong Kong and cemented the brand within the international designer figure movement. Graffiti artists, visual designers and art collectors form the company’s creative force and as a result adFunture has grown to be the embodiment of designer figure culture, playing an integral part in its revolution.
Inspired by the V&A’s examination of contemporary Chinese design adFunture have created a range of figures to complement the exhibition which will also be stocked at Liberty. Characters include the ‘Perk Pioneer’ (who arrives in a sealed box which remains unopened until after purchase meaning the customer is unaware which colour they’re adopting), a monochrome ‘Jellofox’ and a luminescent green ‘Monster Kar’, as well as an army of ‘China Buka’ graffiti figures.
